Prior to taking on the role at video advertising tech firm Unruly, Khan served as managing director for Asia and ANZ at AOL, before going on to be managing director APAC at Oath (now part of Verizon Media Group).
Between his time at Oath and joining Unruly, the new UK managing director spent over a year in the role of managing director APAC at Smaato, restructuring the mobile advertising company’s go-to-market strategy.
With 25 years’ experience in advertising under his belt, Khan will be responsible for accelerating growth in the UK market, focusing on bolstering the Tremor International subsidiary’s cross-screen video media portfolio. This will include upcoming connected TV, In-App and InStream services.
“Unruly is one of the biggest names in the video advertising industry — a truly multi-optional partner to clients, requiring a mix of deep industry knowledge, creativity and best-in-class products,” said Khan. “Its recent acquisition by Tremor International gives the business an unrivalled, powerful proposition in the market.
“I can’t wait to continue driving the company’s growth in the UK through investment in a breadth of innovative new services — including CTV, in-app and InStream — to build a unified and integrated platform across any screen media services.
How tech leaders can fully embrace digital marketing in 2020
“I’m pleased to be joining the team and looking forward to working with the many talented people within the business.”
Steve Sottile, CRO at Unruly, said: “Our primary focus at Unruly since the Tremor International acquisition has been on our tech integration; ensuring our clients and publishers have access to our expanded range of premium ad formats and additional reach in supply.
“It’s now time to ensure we have the right people and processes in place to accelerate our growth in key markets.
“Alex is a highly experienced and talented leader, and has a wealth of expertise in refining and driving a business’ goals in multiple regions. This makes him a crucial asset to Unruly, and we are confident that he will be a key driver in strengthening our position in the UK.”
The new appointment’s track record for growth has been recognised worldwide, with Khan winning an award for ‘best region’ while at AOL.
He has also demonstrated a passion for diversity, serving as an advisor and innovation lead at illiteracy-focused education organisation WGI.
