Covid-19 has sent waves through the global economy and has influenced businesses from all industries to approach work differently from what they were previously accustomed to — but what has the impact on tech recruiting been?
Most of the world has been in a state of flux for almost 12 months now, and it’s safe to say, we’ve learned a few things along the way. We have learned that there are only so many ‘Zoom quizzes’ a person can be forced to endure. We have learned the true value of a long walk. And we have also learned how to maintain a functioning recruitment process despite the mass disruption caused by the pandemic.
Anyway, here are a few tech recruiting lessons we’ve learned over the last few months.
1. Improve processes
There were certainly kinks to iron out when learning how to recruit talent during a global pandemic (to say the least). We learned how to streamline these processes in order to make the most effective hiring decisions. The onboarding experience looks very different today than it did 12 months ago. We have adapted, and embraced the virtual processes that have allowed us to continue to grow as companies.

2. Virtual interviews
Almost overnight, the world went from working on site to working remotely – as did the interview process. If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it is the benefits of virtual job interviews. We reckon that virtual interviewing is not going away regardless of how the world evolves through this pandemic, and so investment in proper methods/ technology will serve businesses well going forward.
3. Employer brand and culture
All those jazzy office perks that were once on offer to potential employees are pretty much redundant now. Company cultures and values have never been more tested. That’s why sourcing candidates that perfectly match a businesses culture and values is key. Now more than ever, having the perfect cultural fit for your team is crucial.

4. Be flexible
If there’s one thing Covid-19 has taught us it’s the importance of flexibility — in all aspects of running a business, but very much when it comes to recruitment. Flexible working approaches, virtual meetings and remote working look like they are here to stay, meaning employers should look to implement long-term solutions, as well as select candidates who are able to adapt and are open to change.
