A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of hacking attempts in an operation conducted by the FBI and Scotland Yard.
According to Sky News, the man is "suspected of being a mastermind" behind hacking group LulzSec.
However, the hacking group dismissed the arrest through their twitter feed. "Seems the glorious leader of LulzSec got arrested, it’s all over now… wait… we’re all still here! Which poor bastard did they take down?" LulzSec tweeted.
The Metropolitan Police Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU) said that the arrest followed an investigation into recent cyber attacks, which they believe to be the work of one hacking group.
"Searches at a residential address in Wickford, Essex, following the arrest last night have led to the examination of a significant amount of material. These forensic examinations remain ongoing," the police said in a statement. "The PCeU was assisted by officers from Essex Police and have been working in co-operation with the FBI," the statement said.
