The new Avanade infrastructure about to be leveraged by RWE AG will be based on Microsoft Azure‘s capabilities and will include the deployment of Microsoft 365.
A replacement of some of RWE AG’s existing infrastructure due to an asset swap with E.ON, which is expected to be completed later this year.
“We need a new IT operating model, but we also need a modern, cloud-based architecture to support our future growth in a competitive energy sector,” said Edward Bouwmans, head of infrastructure at RWE AG.
“Succeeding in today´s energy industry requires a high degree of speed and responsiveness. It is also important to build a flexible operating environment that can adapt quickly when organisational change is required.

“The new cloud-based workplace environment will provide the perfect foundation for building our agile enterprise and making RWE future-ready.”
Avanade was chosen for this task due to its track record in integrating IT infrastructure following mergers and acquisitions, as well as helping RWE AG to integrate Microsoft platforms previously.
The digital transformation project, carried out in collaboration with Accenture, will see 17,000 of RWE’s users get moved over to Office 365 and Azure AD.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
Mark Corley, UKI resources group lead at Avanade, said: “The energy sector is undergoing significant disruption. Companies like RWE understand that one-off digital innovation initiatives aren’t enough to ensure their ongoing survival in the face of change.
“Avanade’s end-to-end digital innovation capabilities enable us to partner with clients like RWE from strategy through to implementation, without hand-offs.
“We are proud to have been selected by RWE to help accelerate the digitalisation of its business and provide the best possible workplace experience for its employees.”
