Oracle CEO Larry Ellison last night gave an update to the company’s cloud computing strategy.
He announced the addition of various cloud-hosted social media applications to its portfolio. These include Oracle Social Network, an internal social collaboration service, and Oracle Social Marketing and Engagement Services, which allows marketers to analyst social media marketing campaigns.
These join Oracle’s applications services, based on its Fusion Applications range, and platform services, such as cloud-hosted database software and analytics infrastructure.
In his first ever post to Twitter, Ellison mocked arch-rival SAP for not having a cloud-hosted version of its ERP software available. "SAP’s got nothin’ but SuccessFactors until 2020," he wrote.

However, Oracle did not reveal when the various cloud services would be generally available to customers.
Writing about yesterday’s announcements on her blog, Debra Lilley, president of the UK Oracle user group, said the company’s failure to give clear guidance on the availability of its Fusion applications while they were being developed prompted many customers to "look elsewhere".
"Don’t do it again Larry, gives us a timeline," she wrote.
