Unsurprisingly, this has led to a staggering 73% of those surveyed stating that they are unhappy with the way that they sit.
The average Brit now spends roughly four hours per day looking at their phone and another six hours using their laptop, according to figures from a new Urban Massage study. These figures demonstrate just how much technology has changed the way we consume content over recent years.
If anything, this survey demonstrates how much we are damaging our bodies through bad posture. Out of those surveyed, 60% admitted to sitting in a slouched position while working at a desk. It is at our desks that we are most at risk.
Sitting in an office chair makes us prone to arching our back over the computer screen as well as tilting our neck up and down which can stiffen the musculature and affect the movement of our head.
Additionally, spending time sitting on a chair that is not set correctly for your height can be a leading cause of lower back pain which can worsen over time. If this is something that you suffer from, try daily stretches to promote good posture throughout your day.
Similarly, out of those surveyed only 27% reported that they were happy with their posture and 64% of respondents expressed their belief in technology as the cause of their bad posture and overall health.
Although most of us don’t spend a lot of time thinking about our posture when we’re at work in the office, this data does demonstrate just how much technology is beginning to affect our lives and, more importantly, how damaging it can be for our bodies.
