The new appointments to the senior team at Lilli come as part of the company’s recruitment focus, and follow its pre-Series A funding round, which was organised by West Hill Capital and raised £4.5 million.

The biggest senior technology hires in 2021
Sameer Vartak
New Lilli CTO Vartak brings over 20 years’ experience as a software engineer across fintech, energy, payments, risk and compliance.
Vartak’s career spans spells with Printsum, WorldRemit, Pockit and most recently, Limejump, where as CTO he led a team of 45 engineers.
On his arrival at Lilli, Vartak commented: “I’m really looking forward to this new role. Lilli is an amazing company that uses innovation to address a fascinating challenge for the whole of society – care for the elderly and vulnerable, that enables independent living at a time of stretched resources.
“Lilli is going to be a data-driven innovation engine in remote care. We have only just started on what is possible in this field.”
Dr Rachel Melsom
Dr Melsom arrives as Lilli’s first chief medical officer, having become a medical doctor in her late 30s after completing a degree in genetics and pursuing a career in finance and media.
Having qualified as a doctor, Melsom concentrates on palliative and elderly care, and is currently a medical practitioner at Worthing Hospital.
Her previous work has also seen a tenure as UK/Europe director for global organisation Tobacco Free Portfolios, which functions at the intersection of finance and health.
Melsom said: “Lilli already has wonderful tech abilities and a great platform. What I bring is the mapping of the technology against the requirements and needs of older people and care professionals, based on what I see in my everyday experiences with my wonderful patients.
“I’m excited to be joining the team because technology really is a fantastic bridge, enabling human beings to deliver for other human beings at maximum capacity and opportunity.
“We need to harness technology to make better and more cost-effective decisions about care and help people remain independent as long as possible.”

Having recently pivoted from hardware to software and undertaken a major rebrand, Lilli looks to fulfil a growing need in the UK for independent living.
Using machine learning, the solution analyses a range of data sources, such as temperature, motion, and power usage, to alleviate the pressures of caring for an ageing UK population, and those with long-term health conditions.
Lilli’s technology has already undergone trials with Brent Council, and is about to commence a 100-person trial with Dorset County Council, both through Lilli’s Independent Future Group.
The group is a coalition of local authorities and professional care associations, which aims to explore the further use of technology and help address the changing needs of care.
