CRC scheme delayed for a year

A controversial scheme to reduce carbon emissions that affects operators of large data centres has been pushed back after business complained it was too complex.

The government has delayed the second phase of its CRC Energy Efficiency scheme, when the cap on carbon emissions will be introduced, by one year until 2013.

“This [delay] will create a window for us to engage in a proper dialogue with participants about what we need to do to improve it,” secretary of state for energy and climate Chris Huhne told a conference earlier this week.

In September 2010, the Environment Agency reported that only a third of UK business that are required to sign up had done so.
