Web Science Trust director JP Rangaswami has left his post as chief scientist at cloud computing company Salesforce.com to become Deutsche Bank’s first ever chief data officer.

Rangaswami will play a key role in supporting the bank’s digital strategy and standardising its processes, tools and governance around information.

He will join in January 2015 following a four-year post at Salesforce.

Other previous roles include chief scientist at telecoms firm BT Group and CIO at investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein before it was acquired by Commerzbank.

Rangaswami will be based in London and will report to Deutsche Bank’s global co-heads of group technology and operations Kim Hammonds and Jim Turley. Hammonds is also global CIO.

“JP has a track record of partnering closely with senior business leaders to deliver innovation,” said Hammonds.

“He will help drive competitive advantage by deepening the Bank’s insights into clients and markets, while enhancing its data quality and controls.”
