Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has announced plans to cut up to 1,500 positions from the wirless networking division it acquired from Motorola Solutions earlier this year. a spokesman announced on Thursday.
Jobs will go from the GSM and WiMax divisions of the business. NSN said that the process had already begun in Britain and would affect several countries including the US. The BBC has reported that one third of NSN’s 400 research staff in Swindon are in a 90-day consultation over job losses.
The job cuts represent 22% of the 6,900 workers which moved to NSN as a result of the acquisition. No spokesperson from NSN was available for comment.
NSN acquired Motorola’s networking assets earlier this year. The deal, first announced in 2010, was temporarily blocked by Chinese telecommunications equipment giant and rising global player Huawei, which objected to intellectual property assets embedded in Motorola’s equipment transferring into NSN’s ownership. Huawei and NSN settled the dispute in April this year.
