The number of job vacancies in the UK rose by 23% between December 2009 and December 2010, according to recruitment provider Reed, thanks to rising demand in the private sector.
However, Reed’s IT job index, which tracks new job creation, fell by 5% between November 2010 and December 2010.
That was in part a result of spending cuts in the public sector. Indeed, the overall index for public sector jobs, across all forms of employment, was lower than it had been in December 2009.
The question remains whether the growth in private sector job opportunities will be enough to offset public sector cuts.
