The former financial controller of iSoft, one of the key software suppliers for the NHS’ controversial IT refresh project, has been banned from practice for eight years and fined £20,000 following an investigation by the Accountancy and Actuarial Discipline Board.

Faced with a disciplinary complaint, Ian Storey "accepted that he had, on a number of occasions between November 2003 and November 2005, provided false and misleading information to iSoft’s former auditors in relation to a purported iSoft contract,” the AADB said yesterday.

Criminal proceedings ‘against other parties arising out of the same circumstances’ are still underway, the AADB also said.

iSoft achieved notoriety in 2006 when it failed to deliver its component of the NPfIT, the NHS IT refresh programme. The same year, the FSA launched an enquiry into its accountancy practices and the government admitted giving the company early payments to help it meet shareholder expectations.
