New information released from RedPixie has highlighted ten of the biggest online data breaches to date.

In 2015 alone, anonymous hackers leaked the records of over 70 million attorney-client phone calls at Securus Technologies and compromised 7 million email addresses and passwords at Lastpass.

The hacks are proof that although technology has developed, some organisations still have more to do to protect their user’s data.

Other organisations making the top ten include Sony Pictures, VTech and Apple.

For businesses that operate in Europe, there has never been a more important time to focus on data protection.

In 2018, the Data Protection Act will be replaced by the General Data Protection Regulation, meaning companies which do not effectively manage their data security could be fined up to 4% of their annual worldwide turnover fine, which could be millions of pounds.
